11 New Years Resolutions…
As it turns out the Fab 4 were not only Icons of Melody and Harmony, they are amazing health and spiritual gurus too. I have been inspired by them this New Years. Don’t forget to sing along.
1. Shake It Up Baby!

3. Let it Be
This one might be the most challenging of all, depending on your coworkers or immediate family members. The idea is to stay cool and collected, rather than hot-headed, as a general way of being. Practice 10 minutes of mindfulness, meditation or silence first thing the a.m. and right before bed. This habit will help you focus during the day, release tension, sidestep stress and not sweat the small stuff.
4. All You Need is Love
Create your own rituals around expressing gratitude and sharing time with your loved ones to let them know how much you care. Maybe you send texts throughout the day when you think of each other, make sure you always eat one meal a day together or share a few things your grateful for with each other before bed. Whatever feels right to you will work, just don’t take your loved ones for granted!
5. I’m Only Sleeping
It may sound like a pipe dream, but aim for 8 hours of sleep every night. This is the amount of time it takes for your body to recharge, rebalance and restore before you kick it into overdrive the next day. If you can’t get 8 hours of Zzzz, shoot for no less than 6 and take your disco nap in the afternoon.
You’ve heard the expression that when we give, we receive. That’s not some hippie feel-good mantra. The positive benefits that our minds and bodies receive from giving are scientifically proven. It reduces stress and inflammation while promoting happiness and gratitude. You don’t have to drop thousands of dollars in donations, donate time, clothing or resources to your favorite local or international charity, which is just as significant as cold hard cash.
7. Good Day Sunshine
The sun gets a bad rap these days thanks many people’s overexposure to harmful cancer-causing, anti-aging UV rays. What you don’t hear about is that UV rays also increase the absorption and conversion of vitamin D in your skin and stimulate your pineal gland to produce melatonin and serotonin. In other words, even a small amount of sunlight makes you happy. Get 20 minutes of exposure daily without sunscreen or sunglasses and don’t worry, you won’t get wrinkles in that short timeframe.
8. With a Little Help From My Friends
One of the healthiest things you can do for yourself is share quality time with friends and loved ones. Knowing people are there for you (and you in return) revs up our immune systems and triggers the production of feel-good hormones that lead to happiness and good health. Next time a friend needs you, listen. It’s the greatest gift you can give or receive.
9. Can’t Buy Me Love
Bling is seductive but don’t spend all your time working with no play or time for the special people in our life. It’s bad for your mind, bad for your body, and bad for your relationships. Carve out time to enjoy life and create positive experiences. After all, “Money can’t buy you love!”
10. Day Tripper
Take one day off per week to rest, relax or have some fun. Down time allows you to really let go, release stress and re-energize. Even something simple, like having a spontaneous adventure in your own neighborhood, can blossom your creativity.
11. We Can Work It Out
How many times have you that holding grudges only hurts you? It’s true. Pent-up negative feelings create an unhealthy environment in the body that leads to inflammation, sickness and disease. No matter hard difficult it is to let them go, don’t hold resentments, hurts and grudges inside, which leads to anxiety, insomnia, depression and headaches. Instead, talk to the person who is upsetting you and work out your differences. Forgive and move on.
